In Ukraine, a battalion called "Kharakternyky" was formed from former prisoners who served their sentences in prisons.
This was announced on the Telegram channel of the 24th separate mechanized brigade named after King Danylo.
The new recruits who have taken the military oath are distinguished by their patriotism and willingness to defend Ukraine. They also have significant experience, including combat experience.
“These volunteers decided to exercise their right to atone for their guilt and join the army to defend our land from invaders,” the report said.
The “Harakternyki” battalion plans to begin performing combat missions in the near future and demonstrate its military capabilities on the battlefield.
In Ukraine, the law on voluntary mobilization of prisoners, approved by the parliament, has already come into effect. However, the law has a number of nuances and not everyone will be able to stand up for the state. Those convicted of crimes against the foundations of national security of Ukraine will not be able to mobilize.
