The Kyiv City Prosecutor's Office reported suspicion to a 35-year-old Kyiv woman who left her 14-year-old son without proper supervision and assistance, despite his serious health condition.
According to the investigation, the teenager could not walk independently due to a serious leg injury and was completely dependent on adults. The mother left in an unknown direction, leaving the boy in the care of an elderly grandmother, who could not take care of her grandson herself. For two weeks, the teenager was without proper care, food and means of communication.
Law enforcement officers and children's services found the child in unsatisfactory conditions: there was no food in the apartment, and the teenager and his grandmother were being fed by neighbors. The boy was removed and placed in a family-type orphanage. Doctors had previously diagnosed him with anorexia and serious disorders of the internal organs.
The mother's actions are classified under Part 1 of Article 135 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine - knowingly leaving a person in a life-threatening condition without assistance. The sanction of the article provides for up to two years of restriction or imprisonment.
The Prosecutor's Office noted that, on the instructions of the Prosecutor General, the prosecutor's office strengthened the protection of children's rights: 45 interdepartmental groups were created, 281 children's institutions and 722 family forms of upbringing were inspected, and checks were carried out on more than 26 thousand children.
