A doctor from one of the city council's outpatient clinics will appear in court in Odessa, charged with abuse of influence. According to police, the doctor demanded a bribe from a disabled patient for falsifying medical documents. He faces up to five years in prison.
As the investigation established, a 52-year-old man with a disability turned to his family doctor for advice on continuing the group. However, the doctor decided to use the situation in his own interests - hinting that "resolving the issue" was possible only for a fee of 600 US dollars.
For this money, the doctor promised to influence officials at one of the city hospitals to issue fictitious documents about inpatient treatment without actual hospitalization. This, in turn, made it possible to refer the patient to a medical and social expert commission.
Law enforcement officers detained the doctor at his workplace while he was handing over a bribe. They seized cash and other material evidence relevant to the investigation.
The pre-trial investigation has now been completed, and the indictment has been submitted to the court. The detainee was placed under 24-hour house arrest as a preventive measure.
The charges are filed under Part 2 of Article 369-2 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine - receiving unlawful benefit for influencing decision-making by persons authorized to perform state functions. The case will be represented in court by the Black Sea District Prosecutor's Office.
