A 30-year-old foreigner was sentenced in Kyiv for a brazen robbery of a grocery store on Andriyivskyi Uzviz in late 2024. Threatening the cashier with a gun, the man broke the cash register with a crowbar and fled with the proceeds. The court sentenced him to eight years in prison with confiscation of property.
According to the police, the attack occurred in December last year. A 61-year-old cashier of the store, who survived an armed attack, contacted law enforcement. According to her, an unknown person in a mask broke into the premises, pointed a gun at her and began to break the cash register. After taking more than 11 thousand hryvnias, the attacker fled.
Patrol officers, detectives, and the investigative and operational group of the Podilskyi Police Department immediately rushed to search for the attacker. An hour later, the attacker was detained. He turned out to be a foreign citizen who has been living in Kyiv since September 2024. During the detention, a pistol, a burglary tool — a crowbar, and the stolen money were seized from him.
The suspect was in custody throughout the investigation. The Podilskyi District Court found him guilty of robbery and sentenced him to eight years in prison with confiscation of property.
