The Earth will be covered by a red-level magnetic storm. The US Space Weather Prediction Center (NOAA SWPC) has warned about this. Geomagnetic activity will reach a K-index of 4.7 - this is close to a strong level, and can negatively affect the well-being of weather-dependent people.
According to experts, the increased level of magnetic activity will persist for only one day. Already on July 9, the geomagnetic situation will stabilize: only weak fluctuations with a K-index of 2.7 and 1.7, respectively, are expected.
What is a magnetic storm and how does it work?
Magnetic storms are caused by solar flares that eject charged particles toward Earth. When they enter the magnetosphere, they cause geomagnetic disturbances, which are recorded by the K-index. Values up to 4 are considered minor, while a K-index of 5 is considered severe and potentially dangerous.
Possible consequences include headaches, high blood pressure, insomnia, fatigue, exacerbation of chronic diseases, and emotional instability.
How to help yourself during a magnetic storm?
Doctors and meteorologists recommend following a few simple rules:
-
Adequate sleep and rest are the key to stable well-being.
-
Light food: avoid fatty, fried, salty foods and alcohol.
-
More water and herbal tea, less coffee.
-
Walking in the fresh air, but without prolonged exposure to the sun.
-
Light physical exercise - yoga, walking, stretching.
-
A contrast shower in the morning and a warm bath in the evening can normalize the state of the nervous system.
-
Avoid stress and conflicts - the nervous system is vulnerable on such days.
-
People with chronic diseases should carry their medications with them and avoid strenuous activity.
Magnetic activity forecasts are updated every three hours, so if necessary, it is worth monitoring the Space Weather Center's information in real time.
