Ukrainian border guards are facing increasingly inventive methods of illegal border crossing. One of the latest cases, reported by the press service of the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine, demonstrates the remarkable ingenuity of the violator.
Recently, border guards at the Ukrainian-Romanian border detained a man who tried to cross the Danube River using an underwater scooter. The incident occurred while patrolling the river when guards noticed someone surfacing to breathe.
“During another patrol of the Danube River, our officers discovered a clever trespasser who was moving underwater using an underwater scooter. He periodically rose to the surface to breathe air,” the State Border Guard Service reported.
Despite his bold and original attempt, the man failed to carry out his plans. Border guards detained him when he resurfaced.
This was not the man's first attempt to flee Ukraine. The State Border Guard Service added that this was the offender's second attempt to illegally cross the border. Unfortunately for him, his plan failed this time too.
