In 2024, Kyiv remains the main center of higher education in Ukraine, attracting a quarter of all applicants. According to Deputy Minister of Education and Science Mykhailo Vynnytskyi, the capital continues to be a “huge magnet” for applicants. This is confirmed by the admission campaign, according to which 25% of all applicants decided to continue their education in Kyiv universities.
"Kyiv has its own important role and significance in education, and applicants do not choose the capital by chance. This indicates a certain order and hierarchy in higher education," Vynnytskyi emphasized in an interview with LB.ua.
In 2024, Ukrainian universities enrolled more than 187 thousand applicants for budget and contract forms of education. This is 80 thousand less than in the previous year, when the number of applicants was 267 thousand. In total, more than 217 thousand applications for admission were submitted.
A feature of this campaign was the significant number of refusals from budget places: 6284 applicants who received an offer of free education refused it. Among them, almost 25% – 1442 people – did not enter Ukrainian universities. At the same time, the majority of those who refused the budget chose contract studies in other universities, using a state grant or entering institutions where they really wanted to study.
