In the village of Lyubashivska community, Odessa region, police are investigating a case of grave desecration - unknown persons removed metal plaques and fence elements from graves. In total, law enforcement officers recorded 19 cases of theft at the local cemetery.
After conducting an operational search, the police were able to identify the person likely involved in the crime. He turned out to be a 20-year-old unemployed resident of a neighboring village, who explained that he was looking for metal products to sell for scrap and earn some extra money.
The man has already sold part of the stolen goods, while law enforcement officers found the rest at his home. The seized items have been included in the criminal case materials as physical evidence.
Investigators informed the young man of suspicion under Part 3 of Article 297 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine - illegal appropriation of objects located on a grave, committed repeatedly and for selfish motives.
The sanction of this article provides for a penalty of imprisonment for a term of 4 to 7 years.
