Ukrainian MP Yevhen Shevchenko warns of the possibility of a second front opening from Belarus. In his latest message, Shevchenko expressed serious concern about the military-political situation developing in the neighboring country.
"I don't want to inflame the situation. But, I don't rule out the opening of a Russian-Belarusian second front. And it's not about Yanukovych. Everyone came to Minsk with Putin. Just everyone. Their new defense minister and Lavrov himself. This is bad. Very bad!" - writes Shevchenko.
As a reminder, rumors about Belarus' possible entry into the war have been circulating for a long time, since the beginning of the war, although they have never been confirmed. Lukashenko has denied these rumors.
Belarus' entry into the war now could become a much bigger problem for Ukraine than at the beginning of the war, given that the Armed Forces of Ukraine are currently inferior in size to the Russian army, have limited reserves, and the opening of a new front will seriously exacerbate these problems.
However, there are no signs yet that Belarus is preparing a strike group to attack Ukraine. Nothing is known about large-scale mobilization measures in the Republic of Belarus. But if they begin, this will be the first real signal about the possibility of Belarus entering the war.
However, there is a widespread belief in Ukraine that the rumors circulating about Minsk entering the war are a special information operation by the Kremlin aimed at forcing the Armed Forces of Ukraine to keep a large group of troops near the Belarusian border.
