In Nizhyn, Chernihiv region, a 44-year-old local resident, while intoxicated, threw an unknown explosive device, previously a grenade, in a park. This was reported by the Chernihiv region police, the Central Police Headquarters .
The incident occurred in a public place — according to law enforcement, the man was resting in a park and threw the ammunition towards the trees. Fortunately, no one was injured as a result of the explosion.
"Police immediately detained a 44-year-old resident involved in the explosion," the regional police department reported.
Patrol police crews, an investigative and operational group, and representatives of other rescue services quickly arrived at the scene.
Investigators have initiated criminal proceedings under Part 4 of Article 296 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine — “hooliganism with the use of explosive objects,” which is punishable by imprisonment for a term of up to seven years.
Law enforcement officers are currently establishing the origin of the ammunition and all the circumstances of the incident.
