The Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Valeriy Zaluzhny, shared a selfie on his Facebook on January 30, in which he is depicted together with the Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Serhiy Shaptala.
The photo shows Zaluzhny and Shaptala in an office at the same table, dressed in khaki sweatshirts with the “Army Ukraine” print. Zaluzhny was wearing glasses during the photoshoot. The general left his post without comment.
“Ukraine is with you, gentlemen generals,” expressed support online.
“Only in unity is our strength. We believe, we trust, we love,” Ukrainians commented on the photo.
It should be noted that the Commander-in-Chief published this photo after rumors about his alleged dismissal began to spread by some Telegram channels and media outlets on January 29, citing their own sources.
The editor-in-chief of the publication “GORDON” Olesya Batsman stated on Facebook that these rumors are not true. “No, this is not true. According to my sources, which I completely trust,” she wrote.
Later, the presidential press secretary, Serhiy Nikiforov, in a comment for Ukrainska Pravda, disavowed the information about the dismissal of the commander-in-chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. “When asked whether the president dismissed Zaluzhny, the spokesman replied: “Exactly not. The president did not dismiss the commander-in-chief,” the press secretary wrote. In a comment for Suspilny, Nikiforov added: “There is no reason to talk, there was no dismissal. I cannot add anything more.”.
