Actor Dmytro Surzhikov talked about "Servant of the People", Zelensky and life after the series

The famous Ukrainian actor Dmytro Surzhikov, known for his roles in the series "Cop from the Past", "Sydorenky-Sydorenky" and "Female Doctor", spoke about his experience working in the series "Servant of the People" together with the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyi. In an interview for OBOZ.UA, the artist shared his thoughts about that period of his life and told whether he is currently in contact with the head of state.

Dmytro Surzhikov played Dmytro Surikov, the head of the National Bank, and later the prime minister, in the TV series "Servant of the People". This role was negative, but the actor is calm about it. According to Surzhikov, he last saw Volodymyr Zelensky during the filming of the series, and that period now seems to him to be part of "another life."

"Well, I didn't have a very good role. I remember the work like everyone else. The only thing was that there was a lot of attention to this series, because a historical incident happened: the actor who played the president later became one in real life. After the filming, I never met Zelensky again. And now, when this terrible war is going on, everything that happened before that is remembered as a different reality," said Surzhikov.

The actor also commented that he often plays negative characters in movies. He considers this a normal practice, because not all heroes can be positive. However, Surzhikov noted that it bothers him when the audience perceives him through the prism of screen images.

"Negative roles are normal, it's another matter when you are perceived through the lens of your roles in ordinary life as well. For example, you refuse to take a picture with fans because you don't feel very well, and you hear: "But he's the same as in the movie." Or they ask: 'What movie did you star in?' Out of resentment, you grumble something in response. The reaction is the same," the actor shared.

Surzhikov emphasized that almost everything has changed over the past ten years: both life in the country and his acting career. He admits that the popularity of "Servant of the People" and the events that took place after the release of the series became a unique phenomenon not only for Ukraine, but also for the whole world.
