The US Presidential Administration Donald Trump considers the possibility of taking control of the territory around the Zaporizhzhya Nuclear Power Plant (ZPP), proposing to make it a "neutral territory" that would be under US control. About it reports the American edition of The Wall Street Journal.
According to the sources of the publication, the White House put forward such a proposal to the Ukrainian authorities last week in Paris, trying to find ways to end the war. This decision could be part of the broader initiatives to stabilize the situation in Ukraine and maintain its strategic infrastructure, including nuclear facilities.
According to reports, Zaporizhzhya NPP could supply electricity both in Ukraine -controlled territory and in the Russian -occupied regions, which were captured after 2022. This step is considered as an opportunity to create greater stability in the energy sector.
It is interesting that the issue of control over energy facilities was raised by Donald Trump in March this year during a conversation with President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky. Trump then suggested that the United States purchase Ukrainian power plants, including nuclear facilities, calling it "the best protection for this infrastructure."
The United States is currently discussing the possibility of influencing the situation around the ZPP, which is one of the largest and most important nuclear stations in Europe. However, this step raises questions about the possible consequences for Ukraine's sovereignty and long -term geopolitical relations between countries.
