Former Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba has expressed serious concerns about Ukraine's future if it refuses to join NATO. In an interview with the Kyiv Independent , he noted that if Ukraine does not become a member of the Alliance, then in a few years Russia may again become an aggressor.
According to Kuleba, the next generation of Ukrainian politicians will be focused on rebuilding the country after the war, while the generation after them may come to power with revanchist sentiments. This, he said, will lead to a desire to reclaim territory and make Russia “pay” for everything it did to Ukraine during the war.
Kuleba believes that after Ukraine's economic recovery, arguments in favor of revenge and punishment of Russia may become dominant in domestic politics. He indicated that this will contribute to the intensification of aggressive rhetoric and may even lead to new military stages in relations between Ukraine and Russia.
