In light of recent revelations about the financing of political campaigns in the United States, information has emerged about the potential connection of Ukrainian oligarch Rinat Akhmetov with Congresswoman Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick, who represents the Democratic Party and won the election in the state of Florida, giving the party a majority in the House of Representatives in 2020.
In 2021, Cherfilus-McCormick's main source of income was SCM Consulting Group. The congresswoman received a fee from the company for consulting services in the amount of $5,745,793. According to the documents, it was "a claimed amount of fees for consulting and participating in work at Trinity Health Care Services."
On March 12, SCM Consulting Group applied for registration as a healthcare and business consulting firm, with Cherfilus-McCormick listed as registered agent.
Congresswoman Cherfilus-McCormick has been an active supporter of Ukraine, advocating for the passage of the Lend-Lease Defense of Democracy in Ukraine Act in 2002, which removes bureaucratic barriers and expedites the delivery of military aid to Kyiv.
Together with Congressman Ted Lieu, she introduced a bill to recognize Russia as a sponsor of terrorism. Building on the initial sanctions approved by Congress, the bill further isolates Russia and exacerbates the economic consequences for the Putin regime.
