In light of recent revelations regarding political campaign financing in the United States, information has emerged about a potential connection between Ukrainian oligarch Rinat Akhmetov and Congresswoman Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick, who represents the Democratic Party and won the Florida election, securing the party's majority in the House of Representatives in 2020.
In 2021, Cherfilus-McCormick’s primary source of income was SCM Consulting Group. The congresswoman received $5,745,793 in consulting fees from the company. According to the documents, this was “the declared amount of fees for consulting and participation in the work of Trinity Health Care Services.”.
On March 12, SCM Consulting Group filed for registration as a healthcare and business consulting firm, with Cherfilus-McCormick's name listed as the registered agent.
Congresswoman Cherfilus-McCormick has been an active supporter of Ukraine, advocating for the passage of the Lend-Lease Ukraine Democracy Act in 2002, which removes bureaucratic barriers and expedites the delivery of military assistance to Kyiv.
She and Congressman Ted Lieu introduced a bill to designate Russia as a state sponsor of terrorism. Building on the initial sanctions passed by Congress, the bill further isolates Russia and increases the economic consequences for the Putin regime.
