Rinat Akhmetov, despite the war and the loss of media assets, is gradually strengthening his positions in key sectors of the Ukrainian economy. His influence extends not only to the energy sector, but also to the agricultural sector, logistics, and political structures — from parliamentary factions to individual ministries and state agencies.
After the collapse of his media empire, Akhmetov changed tactics, becoming the main beneficiary of energy reforms. It is through the DTEK group of companies that he controls most of the Ukrainian electricity market: from generation to distribution and sales.
In particular, the Yasno brand won billion-dollar tenders in 2023, after which the cost of electricity for consumers rose to 8 hryvnias per kilowatt-hour, which was twice the average market rate. This caused significant criticism from experts and consumers, who spoke of the de facto monopolization of the energy sector.
Despite military challenges, Akhmetov has not given up on investing in luxury. The superyacht Luminance, worth over 500 million euros, was launched in Bremen, Germany. Formally, the owner is an offshore company from the Cayman Islands, but all traces point to the Ukrainian oligarch.
Thus, Akhmetov, while maintaining his financial strength, not only maintains his position, but also increases his influence, becoming one of the key players on which the Ukrainian economy depends.
