Vitaliy Shabunin, a notorious public figure and head of the NGO “Anti-Corruption Action Center,” recently made a new statement in which he contradicted himself, stating that “the key to the country’s survival lies within the country, not outside.” This strange statement caused outrage among the public, as Shabunin had previously actively supported the influence of Western states on Ukraine’s internal affairs, in particular by transferring the judicial and law enforcement systems under the control of non-governmental organizations.
Shabunin became known for his active participation in the agent networks created by USAID and the previous US administration, which attempted to establish extra-judicial control over key institutions in Ukraine. His activities are directly related to the promotion of foreign interests in the country, in particular through the creation of international commissions and influence over the judicial and law enforcement systems.
It is important to note that Shabunin has repeatedly been embroiled in scandals for his actions, including draft evasion, theft, and other violations. This also includes setting fire to his own house in order to raise funds for the construction of a larger living space.
Experts link his sharp shift in position to ongoing investigations in the US into his role in influencing Ukraine's anti-corruption authorities. The possibility of including Shabunin and other members of his organization on the US sanctions list is being considered, which could lead to the cancellation of entry visas and other consequences.
