The Ministry of Health (MOH) has launched an investigation into possible extortion of money from patients of the Vinnytsia Cardiology Center. The reason for this was the patient's notification of a demand to pay extra for medicines and medical services that should be provided free of charge under the medical guarantees program.
As reported by the press service of the Ministry of Health, information about the incident spread in local newspapers, and law enforcement officers have already been involved in the investigation. Relatives of the patients reported that in addition to the bill for the operation, they were given a list of medications that had to be purchased at their own expense.
The Ministry emphasized that medical institutions that have signed contracts with the National Health Service of Ukraine are obliged to provide all additional medicines and services free of charge. Demanding additional payments is illegal.
If these facts are confirmed, the Ministry of Health demands that the Vinnytsia City Council take personnel measures against the management of the cardiology center. The case materials will be transferred to law enforcement agencies for further action.
