Andriy Naumov, ex-general of the SBU, was released from prison in Serbia

Former general of the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) Andriy Naumov, who was sentenced in Serbia to a year in prison for money laundering, was released. This was reported to the local court, which decides the issue of his further status.

At the end of last year, Serbia refused to extradite Naumov to Ukraine, because in March of the same year, President Zelensky publicly accused him of being a traitor. This caused a protest by local authorities and was considered a violation of the presumption of innocence.

At the end of his prison term, the documents were returned to Naumov, but he is barred from leaving Serbia pending an appeal against his sentence.

Ukraine's attempts to extradite the former general were stopped by a court decision in Serbia, which recognized interference with the presumption of innocence due to statements by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyi, who in a March 2022 video message called the defendant a traitor.
