The mayor of Lviv, Andriy Sadovy, said that the city does not need language patrols, because it is already the most Ukrainian-speaking city in the world. He expressed this opinion in an interview with rbc.ua, commenting on the initiative of the mayor of Ivano-Frankivsk, Ruslan Martsinkiv, to create language patrols.
"We don't have such a problem. We somehow try to conduct explanatory work," said Sadovy. He noted that the issue of language control is successfully resolved within the framework of cooperation with the language ombudsman, and the introduction of additional measures, such as language patrols, is not necessary for Lviv.
Sadovy emphasized that the city should focus on positive changes: "Our strength is to reshape people with love and make them allies."
The context of Marcinkiv's initiative
Ruslan Martsinkiv, the mayor of Ivano-Frankivsk, previously announced that language inspectors would start working in his city to counter the spread of the Russian language. This initiative caused a stir, but Sadovy made it clear that Lviv does not need such a practice, since the Ukrainian language is already firmly rooted in the local society.
