The Ukrainian Football Association (UAF) announced that Andriy Shevchenko, a former player and coach of the Ukrainian national team, became the only candidate for the position of president of the organization. The meeting of the working group, which determined the suitability of the candidates, took place on December 28.
Shevchenko's candidacy was supported in the minutes of the working group, which concluded that it complies with the UAF charter for presidential candidates. It was also noted that written consent to participate in the presidential election was received from the candidate himself.
It is expected that Andriy Shevchenko will be elected president of the UAF at the extraordinary XXVI Congress, which will be held on January 25, 2024 at the House of Football in Kyiv.
The news comes after the suspension of the previous UAF president, Andriy Pavelek, in February 2023 over suspicion of embezzlement during the construction of a football turf plant. Andriy Pavelko has been in custody without bail since June 2023.
The notification of the nomination of Shevchenko as the only candidate was sent to FIFA and UEFA, which continue to receive information about the preparations for the UAF Congress.
