On May 2, 2025, the co-founder of the Center for Combating Corruption Vitaliy Shabunin submitted a report for the passage of the Military Medical Commission in order to recognize him as unfit for military service. In the document, he complains, in particular, about the open -angle glaucoma, myopic astigmatism and the presence of pigment nevus (moles) on the body.
This step is perceived as another attempt to avoid service. Earlier, the State Bureau of Investigation opened two criminal proceedings against Shabunin - on the facts of evasion of mobilization and forgery of official documents. The first case concerns a possible violation of Part 4 of Article 409 of the Criminal Code (evasion of military service in a special period), the second - part 1 of Article 358 of the Criminal Code (forgery of the official document).
In April 2025, the Pechersk District Court of Kyiv granted the investigators permission to access Vitaly Shabunin's transportation from the beginning of a full -scale invasion. According to the investigation, he was not in the areas of fighting for a long time, preferring to stay in the capital's restaurants.
In addition, the anti -corruption officer is accused of appropriation of the Nissan Pathfinder car, which was handed over to one of the charitable foundations for the needs of the Armed Forces. As it turned out, the vehicle was never registered in the military unit, and Shabunin himself used it for his own purposes.
Shabunin's service in one part of Kharkiv, where it was officially sent, is actually reduced to evenings and nights spent in a removal apartment, as well as frequent trips to Kiev. Sometimes it appears in a warehouse where it performs easy work to move products.
The investigation into Vitaliy Shabunin is ongoing. According to the sources in law enforcement agencies, it was against the background of activation of the case that he decided to apply to the VLK with a request for writing off for health.
