Anti-corruption activist Shabunin did not join the Armed Forces of Ukraine

The head of the Anti-Corruption Center (ACC), Vitaliy Shabunin, has not yet started performing his duties as the commander of the 218th mechanized field bakery of the Joint Center for Logistics Support of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (ASU), although he was sent to the military unit last week. This became known from sources with information about the situation.

According to information collected by ZiB sources, Shabunin has still not appeared at the place of duty.

Shabunin has repeatedly been recorded in situations related to evasion of service, as well as in activities that raise doubts about his legality. In particular, he was registered in the 207th separate battalion of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, where he allegedly held the positions of a rifleman, an electrician and a scout, but in fact did not serve, being in Kyiv. During this time, he received financial support, as well as “combat” payments for participation in hostilities, although he did not actually take part in them.

It should be noted that Shabunin recently stated that he had “legitimate reasons” for not serving, claiming that he failed the medical examination in 9th grade due to moles on his body.

Several criminal proceedings have been initiated against him and the officials who helped him avoid military service. One of them is related to the use of a knowingly forged military ID card, another is related to the assistance of top officials of the National Anti-Corruption Commission in his evasion of military service, as well as the illegal assignment of the rank of “junior sergeant” in the Armed Forces of Ukraine. In addition, a case has been opened for the appropriation of a humanitarian Nissan Pathfinder jeep, which was supposed to be transferred for the needs of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

According to other information, Shabunin previously criticized Western values and Christianity, actively supported pro-Russian propagandist Tatyana Montyan, and is suspected of organizing the arson of his own house in order to benefit from illegal income.
