During the latest expedition to the Galician Castle in the Ivano-Frankivsk region, archaeologists discovered numerous fragments of ancient tiled cladding and fragments of high-quality ceramic dishes that once belonged to representatives of the local elite.
According to Volodymyr Oliynyk, Director General of the National Reserve "Ancient Halych", the finds were made during excavations of the foundation of the Entrance Tower. Archaeologists came across significant layers of the cultural layer, where decorative stove tiles with glaze of various shades and solemnly decorated dishes were preserved.
The discovery allows for a better understanding of the daily life and aesthetic tastes of the local elite of medieval Galicia. The findings suggest further research that may reveal new details about the architecture, daily life, and artistic traditions of that period.
Archaeologists emphasize that each fragment of ceramics and tiles is a valuable source of information for reconstructing the historical appearance of the castle and its interiors.
