Arsenal fans in London expressed surprise at Oleksandr Zinchenko's reaction to his goal against PSV in the second leg of the Champions League round of 16. The Ukrainian footballer scored a precise shot from outside the penalty area, but instead of celebrating, he only raised his hands up, showing that he would not be happy about scoring.
The reason for this gesture is Zinchenko's past with PSV. In the 2016/2017 season, he played for the Dutch club on loan, having played a total of 17 matches. For the Ukrainian, this period was the first serious step in European football after moving from Ufa to Manchester City.
However, Arsenal fans did not appreciate the gesture and expressed their outrage on social media. They believe that Zinchenko exaggerated his ties to PSV, as he was not a key player for the team and spent only one season there.
“What an absurdity! Zinchenko played 12 games for PSV nine years ago and didn’t celebrate a goal,” wrote one fan. “Stop it, bro. You spent one season there at 19,” added another. Some fans even called the gesture “complete nonsense.”.
Zinchenko's reaction has been the subject of debate, as such gestures are usually made by players who have a close connection to the club where they have played for a long time or achieved significant success, but it seems that the Ukrainian footballer simply wanted to show respect for his first European team.
