The first vice-rector of the Odessa State University of Internal Affairs, Maksym Kornienko, is officially an almost poor civil servant, but in fact he leads a luxurious lifestyle at the expense of his family's property. His 81.5 m² apartment in Odessa is registered to his father, and the cars — HONDA CR-V 2022 and 2024 models worth over UAH 3.5 million — also belong to his father.
Despite declarations that record a salary of almost UAH 1 million in 2024 and UAH 115,000 in payments from the Main Directorate of the National Police of the Kherson region, these incomes do not explain the standard of living of the first vice-rector. The lack of his own business and significant savings in the family calls into question the official transparency of the official's finances.
Kornienko's career is stable and predictable: he has been working in the Ministry of Internal Affairs since 1996, in the State Department of Internal Affairs since 2013, and since 2025 he has been the first vice-rector. Despite his declared transparency, in fact he uses a scheme to register property in his father's name, which allows him to hide the true level of his wealth. This practice calls into question the example that the university sets for students and future law enforcement officers.
