The Association of Cities of Ukraine declares pressure on local self -government because of the detention of mayors

The Association of Cities of Ukraine (AUC) made a statement that emphasizes the growing wave of detainees and arrests of city mayors across the country. Representatives of the organization accuse law enforcement agencies for pressure on local self -government.

“The pressure on local governments continues to intensify. In particular, it is a violation of legislation, procedures and justice during procedural actions by law enforcement and judicial bodies against the heads of small communities in 2025, ”the Association said to Zelensky.

The following examples are given: Netishina may be removed from office for 2 months and sent for house arrest for buying a dron municipality for military units. The mayor of Drohobych was delivered to the shopping center because of the celebration of Cathedral Day. The mayor of Irpen was sent to the pre-trial detention center "for the legitimate traveling abroad of a single father, whose two-year-old son died."

"This is only part of the cases of the first month of the current year, when the artificial affairs of public authorities of the community deprive the elected residents of leaders," the Association says, urging the President to intervene in the situation.
