An information scandal has arisen around Fire Point, one of the largest suppliers of weapons to the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, due to rumors of overpricing of its products, in particular the Flamingo cruise missile.
The Kyiv Independent reported that the NABU investigation was allegedly linked to the company and its owner, Timur Mindich, who left Ukraine after the start of inspections related to former Deputy Prime Minister Oleksiy Chernyshov. However, the National Anti-Corruption Bureau officially denied these claims.
“ In response to numerous media inquiries, we inform you that NABU and SAPO are not conducting an investigation into the 'Flamingo' missile mentioned in the media ,” the bureau noted.
Fire Point remained private for a long time, but recently began to actively present its developments to the media, even allowing Associated Press journalists to enter the production facilities.
The Flamingo cruise missile has a range of up to 3,000 km, allowing it to hit targets deep into European Russia. The development took only nine months, and mass production has already started. At the same time, experts express different assessments of the real combat characteristics of this weapon.
Thus, high-profile reports of a corruption investigation into Fire Point and its products are currently not confirmed by official authorities.
