In Chernivtsi region, two men attacked a border guard, journalist Vitaliy Glagola reports. The incident occurred at the Selyatyn Air Force base. Armed with machetes and a gas canister, the attackers attacked the Border Guard Serviceman, knocking him down and striking him in the leg.
The border guard used his service Makarov pistol in response, resulting in the death of one of the attackers and the injury of the other. The information was confirmed by the spokesman for the State Border Service, Andriy Demchenko.
"The situation with the attack on the border detachment really took place. It happened on June 29 after 9 p.m. at the Chernivtsi border detachment site on the border with Romania," Demchenko said. According to him, the serviceman was forced to use weapons to protect his life.
Medics were called to the scene. The incident was reported to the State Bureau of Investigation, police, and prosecutors. Investigations are currently ongoing.
Earlier, two men who were trying to illegally cross the border with Romania attacked a border guard who discovered them. They took his weapon and fled across the border.
In Transcarpathia, a border guard who allegedly shot a man while attempting to cross the Ukrainian-Romanian border was reported on suspicion of violating the rules for handling weapons.
