Austria became the main direction for Ukrainian students

The full -scale war not only destroyed schools and universities, but also changed the fate of thousands of entrants. Due to the death of students and teachers, the destruction of infrastructure, air anxiety, the occupation of part of the territories and the shutdown of electricity, more and more Ukrainian students and students choose their studies abroad. And Austria was the most popular direction.

Instead of explosions - scholarships

According to the educational company "Look wider", in 2024 the number of appeals of Ukrainians to enter foreign universities increased by 30% compared to the previous year. Austrian universities are especially interested in Austrian universities - demand has increased by 45%.

"In 2023, we received 6600 requests, and in 2024 8500," says CEO of Alexander Kovalskaya.

Austria has become an educational magnet not by chance: free education in state universities, lower living costs compared to other EU countries, as well as relative proximity to Ukraine make this country attractive to students.

Growth statistics

According to the Austrian statistics, from 2021 to 2024 the number of Ukrainian students in this country increased from 2077 to 3324 - by 60%.

Year after year:

  • 2021/2022 - 2077 students

  • 2022/2023 - 2652 students

  • 2023/2024 - 3324 students

It is a clear indicator of how much the war influenced the choice of young people.

English -language programs for Ukrainians

Austrian universities quickly adapted to new realities. Many of them have launched English -language programs specifically focused on Ukrainian entrants. Among the most popular are the University of Vienna, Graza Technical University, Vienna Economic, Innsbruck University, Webster and others.

Will graduates return?

The question that worries many - will students return after completing their studies? Dmitry Vyhovsky, the founder "Look Wider", claims that his team is already working on the program of returning young professionals to Ukraine. It is about cooperation with Ukrainian business to create real jobs.

Entry schedule

For those who want to enter Austrian universities, there are clear deadlines:

Winter semester

  • Submission of Documents: March - July

  • Exams: June - August

  • Enrollment: By September 5

Summer semester

  • Submission of Documents: November - January

  • Enrollment: By February 5

Entrance examinations are held only in the summer.

Educational emigration has become another form of salvation of Ukrainian youth. And at the same time, a new challenge for a country that should not only hold talents, but also create conditions for them to return.
