On January 1, 2025, a new law on compulsory civil liability insurance has come into force in Ukraine, which caused a sharp increase in the cost of insurance policies.
According to the State Statistics Committee, the average price of a motorcycle market increased 2.1 times-from UAH 2 188.8 in December 2024 to UAH 4 599.2 in February 2025. This is much higher than the national bank's forecasts that assured that the price rise would be gradual.
The main reason is the increase in insurance payments: the maximum compensation for the harm of life and health increased to 500 thousand UAH, and for the damage of property - to UAH 250 thousand. Insurance companies argue for raising tariffs with increasing their own financial risks.
Despite the criticism of drivers, experts say that new rules will improve compensation in the event of an accident. At the same time, the issue of the availability of insurance policies remains open, because the cost of insurance already significantly beats the wallets of Ukrainians.
