Basic military training was compulsory for male students

All students of the second year of Ukrainian universities-approximately from 75 to 80 thousand people will be undergoing basic general training. Women will be able to join voluntarily. This was stated by Minister of Education and Science Oksen Lisovy during an hour of questions to the government in the Verkhovna Rada.

According to the Minister, 170 educational programs have already been developed to implement the program, which is submitted for the approval of the General Staff. This is the first large -scale step towards integrating military training into a civil education system.

"It will be the theoretical part in the universities we are preparing. The practical part is in the training centers," Lisovy explained.

The minister stressed that the program is now funded from the Ministry of Education's internal reserve. According to him, the need for 2025 is UAH 130 million.

"We expect that when viewing the budget, the state will establish the necessary additional funding," he added.

According to the Government Resolution, a program of basic general military training will start in Ukraine on September 1, 2025. It will be compulsory for men who study on day or dual form in higher education. For women - optional.

Preparation will consist of two components:

  • theoretical course - university;

  • Practical classes - in training military centers.

It is also planned that veterans of hostilities with appropriate education will be able to teach these courses in higher education. The Ministry of Education and Science is already working on the relevant certification program and attracting such specialists.
