Employees of the Bureau of Economic Security (BEB), together with the Office of the Prosecutor General of Ukraine, exposed a large-scale corruption scheme involving current and former officials of the Odessa Customs Service.
Abuse of official position allowed one of the sunflower exporting companies to avoid paying taxes, which caused losses to the state in the amount of over 13 million hryvnias.
Five participants in the scheme were notified of the suspicion.
It was established that officials of the customs posts of the Odessa Customs Service issued certificates of origin of agricultural products to the exporting company on the basis of documents containing false information.
These certificates were later used by the exporter to freely export agricultural products and evade taxes by reducing the export duty from 10% to 3.6% and 2.7%.
Thus, the state budget suffered more than UAH 13 million in losses.
