In recent days, reports of a concentration of Belarusian military units near the Ukrainian border have begun to spread. According to information provided by military observer of the Information Resistance group Oleksandr Kovalenko, among the equipment that was seen in the border zone, markings in the form of the letter “B” were recorded. This letter has caused a lot of speculation and speculation: is it a hint at “Belarus”, is it part of the Wagner PMC symbolism, or maybe it is just a sign for internal use.
Uncertainty and anxiety among the population are growing against the backdrop of statements by the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry, which warned Minsk about the inadmissibility of provocations or acts of aggression. However, Kovalenko emphasizes that such statements are the usual practice of the ministry in such situations. Any accumulation of additional troops in the border zone requires an appropriate response from the state, regardless of the degree of threat.
Recently, the well-known Belarusian monitoring project “Belaruski Gayun” reported that the equipment marked “B” in question belongs to the 6th Mechanized Brigade, based in Grodno. According to the same source, a significant part of this equipment was used during exercises in August at the “Gozky” training ground, located in the Grodno region.
Kovalenko draws attention to an important aspect: currently there are no signs of the formation of a strike group on the territory of Belarus that could threaten Ukraine. According to him, about three thousand Belarusian soldiers are stationed on the 1,084-kilometer border between the two countries, consisting of five battalions and three units up to a company. This is not enough to launch any serious military operation, let alone an offensive on Kyiv.
