Large Ukrainian companies, in particular the retailer Aurora, have found themselves at the forefront of struggling with labor shortages as a result of the war and legislative changes associated with mobilization. The situation, which the press drew attention to, causes serious turbulence in the functioning of business and customer service.
In "Aurora" they say that there is a shortage of workers throughout the war and now it is 8%. However, the situation worsened after the law on mobilization came into force. On May 18, 80% of the company's drivers did not come to work, there were problems with delivering goods to stores. Currently, the large network has only one truck driver.
Nova Poshta has three drivers of large vehicles. There is also a lack of couriers: out of 460 job candidates (including 130 women), in the end only two were hired. Most of them refused because they wanted to work in foot delivery.
The pharmaceutical company "Farmak" is short of loaders, electric gas welders, repairmen, truck drivers, and engineers.
At Ferrexpo, more than a hundred women work in "male" positions: drivers of heavy-duty dump trucks, electric gas welders, and electrical fitters. The company started training them as early as 2020.
The co-owner of EVA and Varus said that women do not want to study and work in "male" positions, even when they are offered a significantly higher salary.
"Now a woman in Ukraine has no problem finding a job. So why should she choose difficult specialties if she can do easier work for the same money," says the general director of "Logistics Union".
