About 2 million Ukrainian refugees may remain abroad

As of the end of January 2024, 4.9 million Ukrainians are abroad due to the war. From 1.4 to 2.3 million people may remain outside Ukraine. This was reported by the Center for Economic Strategy.

"At the end of January 2024, 4.9 million Ukrainians are abroad because of the war. The overwhelming majority of refugees are women (the largest share is women aged 35-44 - 13%) and children," the message reads.

As of January 2024, the largest share of Ukrainian refugees in Europe is in Germany (30%) and Poland (22%). Outside of European countries, the largest countries in terms of the number of Ukrainians accepted since the beginning of the military conflict are the USA (280,000 people), Great Britain (253,200) and Canada (210,200).

It is noted that many countries are gradually reducing expenses for refugees and making the conditions for them tougher than at the beginning of hostilities on the territory of Ukraine.

According to the Central Committee of Ukraine's calculations, 1.4 million to 2.3 million Ukrainians may remain outside of Ukraine under various scenarios.
