The debt of Ukrainians to the MFI has exceeded UAH 24 billion

In the first quarter of 2025, Ukrainians issued more than 2.17 million contracts for a total amount of UAH 12.72 billion. Despite the slight decrease in the average loan amount, the total debt to microfinance organizations (MFI) has increased to a record UAH 24.28 billion.

The rate of lending is increasing: the number of new contracts in January-March 2025 increased by 8% compared to the same period last year. At the same time, the average loan amount decreased for the first time in two years - by 2%, to 5 858 UAH. An average of 724 thousand credits on average.

As of April 1, 2025, the total debt of Ukrainians to the MFI reached UAH 24.28 billion, which was twice as much as it was in April 2022. In the first quarter of this year alone, debt increased by UAH 4.3 billion, or 22%.

Earlier, a possible reduction in debt by 2.7 billion was reported, however, according to new NBU data, in late 2024 the debt on the contrary increased by another UAH 1.4 billion. In total, in 2024, debt increased by UAH 10.7 billion - twice as much as at the beginning of the year.

According to Openatable, 63% of loans in 2025 are issued for a period of 93 days to one year - this share remained stable. At the same time, the number of long -term contracts (by 1-2 years) has increased 15 times - at present their share is 3.6%.

The proportion of short -term loans to 31 days has increased significantly - from 14.5% to 24%. Instead, the number of medium -term loans (32-92 days) collapsed from 16.5% to 3%.

Last year, Ukrainians issued 8.3 million micro-loans for UAH 52 billion-27% more than in 2023. However, the risks of non -return and financial burden on citizens are increasing in parallel. If the trend persists, 2025 can be a record in terms of both contracts and debt growth.
