In the intense struggle for control over one of the largest energy enterprises of Ukraine, Energoatom, the parties of the competition turned out to be ambiguous. According to information, the competition for the position of three independent members of the company's supervisory board should be completed by the end of the month.
The Shurma-Galushchenko-Derkach clan is making every effort to maintain its control over this huge enterprise, the activity of which is constantly accompanied by corruption scandals.
In order to keep Kotin and his snow leopards in leadership positions at Energoatom, Minister Galushchenko is actively promoting at least one candidate loyal to him as an independent member of the Supervisory Board. Together with two representatives of the state in the Supervisory Board, this will make it possible to obtain a majority and, accordingly, full control over the Supervisory Board, which is supposed to appoint new members of the Energoatom Management Board (more precisely, to keep the current Kotin team).
According to our information, one of the clear contenders for the position of an independent member of NR Energoatom is the former vice president of the American manufacturer of equipment for the nuclear industry Westinghouse, Mr. Michael Kirst.
Westinghouse has been cooperating with Energoatom for a long time. Initially, there were projects on the use of Westinghouse fuel cells at Ukrainian nuclear power plants. And recently Galushchenko's Ministry of Energy announced the start of construction of two nuclear units using AR1000 technology from this company.
In the whole world, this situation would be regarded as a significant conflict of interests, since it is possible to lobby for the products of a particular supplier, but we can turn a blind eye to this.
And Galushchenko definitely needs his own person in the Supervisory Board of Energoatom.
