The situation in Donbas remains tense, and the recent battles near Donetsk are of particular importance to both sides of the conflict. The main focus is on the Pokrovsky direction, where the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) are fighting fiercely on the southern flank of the Russian offensive, and the strategic importance of Selidovoy is becoming increasingly obvious.
First, for Halytsynivka. Russian troops, judging by the reports of both Russian and Ukrainian military publics, control most of the village, which covered from the south the already lost ZSU Karlivka - a large Ukrainian enclave west of Avdiivka with a reservoir. Now it has passed into the hands of the Russians.
Halytsynivka, according to the Deep State map, is under the control of Ukraine only in the south. The rest of the territory is either under the Russian Federation or in the gray zone (that is, there are ongoing battles).
The purpose of these battles, as the Russian public writes, is to oust the Armed Forces of Ukraine from another long-held fortified area - in Nevelsky. This outcrop is the last large territory controlled by Ukraine closest to Donetsk.
In the rear of Nevelsky in the west, there are only two villages - Bazhane Pershe and Druge. They are located 2 and 3 kilometers south of Halytsynivka, respectively. Their capture will be equivalent to the operational encirclement of the Armed Forces of Ukraine on the Nevelsky ledge, since only the roads north of Krasnohorivka will remain for the supply of Ukrainian units there.
And, according to Russian telegram channels, Russian troops are already fighting for the Desired First. They also claim that Ukrainian troops have already begun to withdraw from Nevelskyi to the west in order not to be encircled. But so far there is no confirmation of this.
At the same time, a strategically more threatening situation is developing for the Armed Forces to the west - in the area of Selidovoy and Novogrodivka. From these settlements, as we have already written, a road opens to the southwest - bypassing the rear of the entire second line of defense of the Armed Forces of Ukraine to the west of Donetsk, which rests on Ukrainian, Hirnyk and Kurakhove.
After the rapid fall of Novohrodivka, the Ukrainian command must have realized this threat, therefore, according to information from various sources, reserves were transferred to the defense of Selidovo, and the Russians did not succeed in taking the city immediately. Fierce battles have been going on there for several days, during which the Russian troops managed to get hold of the outskirts of the city and are now trying to break through to the center. But, as the Russian public writes, the Armed Forces here, in contrast to Novogrodivka, are putting up fierce resistance.
But in general, let's repeat, the activation of Russian troops is noticeable not in the direction of Pokrovsk and Mirnograd, but to the south - in the direction of Nevelsky, Krasnohorivka, and Kurakhovo.
