The UK Ministry of Defence Intelligence has conducted an analysis of the destruction of the Russian landing ship Novocherkassk in Feodosia, Crimea. In their report, they note that similar ships, including the Novocherkassk, are often used for logistical tasks and to provide road and rail links to the Crimean Bridge.
British intelligence concluded that Russia's aggressive policy involved the use of large amphibious assault ships for significant amphibious operations in the event of a possible invasion. This was likely one reason for the increase in the number of such vessels in the Black Sea in preparation for a possible war against Ukraine.
It is noted that this incident led to an increase in the number of lost Russian ships, including the “Saratov,” which sank on March 24, 2022, and the “Minsk,” which was destroyed in September 2023. Additionally, two submarines are likely also damaged.
On the night of December 26, a missile strike destroyed the Russian landing ship Novocherkassk in annexed Feodosia. According to the Russian Ministry of Defense, the ship was damaged during the attack.
