During the investigation of corruption schemes related to the construction of fortifications, the law enforcement agencies of Ukraine opened about 30 criminal cases. The total amount of money involved in these proceedings is 20 billion hryvnias. This information raises serious concerns about the effectiveness of public financial management and defense spending controls.
Such figures were given by law enforcement officers at a closed session of the investigative commission of the Council on Fortifications, said the secretary of the TSK Mykhailo Bondar. He announced on the sidelines of the Council that the details of these cases will be revealed at the next meeting of the commission in a week.
According to Bondar, the Ministry of Defense and regional military administrations should provide information on the use of budget money for the construction of fortifications, their construction schedule and location. After that, the deputies will plan an inspection of the fortifications.
"Currently, about 30 criminal proceedings have been opened regarding the embezzlement of funds during the construction of fortifications. Members of the commission from "Servants of the People", having heard such figures, immediately tried to defend the managers of the funds. And the lion's share is the military-civilian administrations - the vertical of the president. Next time, we should receive information on each case - under which article, who appears there and what amounts," said Bondar.
