The state-owned company Bulgargaz, the main supplier of natural gas in Bulgaria, is preparing to expand into the Ukrainian market, former Ukrainian Energy Minister Olga Buslavets said.
According to her, Bulgargaz is considering the creation of a trading structure in Moldova that will ensure direct gas supplies to Moldova and Ukraine. These are the border regions of Ukraine that border Moldova and have a combined annual demand of up to 1 billion cubic meters of gas.
"This may be the first time that Bulgargaz will enter the foreign market through its own foreign structure ," Buslavets noted.
This is not only about expanding the geography of supply, but also about creating a new logistics route that can reduce the dependence of Ukraine's border regions on other sources of gas.
If the project is implemented, it will be an important step in diversifying fuel supplies to Ukraine amid the ongoing energy crisis in the region.
