Football club “Uzhhorod” faced a serious challenge on the way to the game with Zhytomyr “Polissya-2”. 100 kilometers from Zhytomyr, the team bus was involved in a traffic accident, which significantly affected the team’s preparation for the match. The club’s press service reported on the incident.
Several members of the team's coaching and medical staff were injured in the accident. Head coach Jaromyr Loboda, coach Robert Smokorovsky and doctor Volodymyr Chervinyak were injured and were urgently hospitalized to the nearest hospital. Physiotherapist Mykhailo Dankov and the club's strategic director Felix Ardelyanov also suffered minor injuries.
The minibus in which the Uzhhorod management and coaching staff were traveling was significantly damaged. Judging by the photos published by the club, the vehicle is unlikely to be repaired.
Despite the psychological blow that the team received on the eve of an important match, “Uzhhorod” still decided to continue its training. After the completion of the investigative actions, the club’s players went to an evening training, albeit in a rather limited number. The club expressed gratitude to “Polish” Zhytomyr for the prompt response and assistance in transporting the team from the accident site to the training base and to the hotel.
However, setbacks also plagued the team on the field. In the match against Polissya-2, which took place on August 18, Uzhhorod suffered a 4:1 defeat.
