The Ukrainian parliament is once again discussing the issue of transparency of data on conscripts, in particular public figures and public activists. People's Deputy from the Servant of the People faction Maksym Buzhanskyi proposed to amend the law "On the Protection of Personal Data" within the framework of project No. 12197. According to him, this will allow to open the data of conscripts who are public figures, in particular activists, members of public associations and charitable organizations.
Highlights of the new initiative:
- Data on conscripts, conscripts and reservists holding public positions should be available to the public, but with restrictions on personal information, such as place of residence or date of birth.
- This aims to increase the level of trust in military duty, in particular among public activists who are perceived as the moral authorities of the nation.
- It is proposed to maintain limited access to sensitive information, such as place of residence or date of birth, similar to the measures applied in declarations of civil servants.
According to this initiative, the veracity of information about draft evasion among public figures will become more transparent. If false accusations are refuted, this will help prevent the formation of stereotypes that even activists can evade mobilization.
This initiative arose against the backdrop of situations where public figures, volunteers, and journalists find themselves in the spotlight due to accusations of evasion of service, which, according to the legislator, undermines trust in the mobilization process among ordinary citizens.
Recently, among such situations was the accusation of blogger Serhiy Sternenko, who was accused of being wanted for failing to comply with a summons, which was later refuted after paying a fine. There are many more such cases in society, which adds to the political and social tension in the country in the conditions of war.
Buzhansky's proposal aims to make the mobilization process more transparent in order to avoid speculation and promote greater trust among Ukrainians in the military service system.
Let us remind you that, as the media found out, other public activists are also avoiding military service, such as: journalists Yuriy Nikolov and Yuriy Butusov, the chief expert of StateWatch Oleksandr Lemenov, the head of the DEJURE Foundation Mykhailo Zhernakov, the husband of the co-founder of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Ukraine Darya Kaleniuk - Orest Rudy and the head of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Ukraine Vitaliy Shabunin, the civilian husband of the host of the "Schemes" program Natalka Sedletska - Serhiy Yakob, the editor-in-chief of the "CHESNO" movement Oleksandr Salizhenko, and the editor-in-chief of "NV" Vitaliy Sych.
