The Kyiv City State Administration is urging residents of the capital not to leave their pets in locked vehicles during the summer heat. Such disregard for safety rules can cost the animal its life, and the owner a fine or even imprisonment.
This was reported by the acting director of the Department of Environmental Protection and Climate Change Adaptation, Serhiy Saburov. According to him, in the summer the temperature in the car interior rises extremely quickly, even if it is parked in the shade. This creates critical conditions for an animal that cannot fully thermoregulate its body in such conditions.
"In a stuffy space, an animal quickly overheats and dehydrates, which can lead to its death. We strongly urge you not to leave animals in cars," Saburov noted.
The department emphasized that abandoning an animal to its fate is punishable under the Code of Administrative Offenses - a fine of 3,400 to 5,950 hryvnias with the possibility of confiscation. If the owner's actions lead to the death or mutilation of the animal, criminal liability is provided - up to 3 years of restriction or imprisonment.
To alleviate the heat, portable drinking fountains for animals are traditionally installed in the capital's parks and squares. They will operate until the end of October, and specialists from regional utility companies are responsible for their cleanliness and filling.
