Head of the Internal Control Department of the State Customs Service of Ukraine, Oleksandr Sapsay, was involved in a road accident in his Skoda Octavia car on May 11, 2025, near Lviv.
On May 19, the customs officer's mother gave him 1.43 million hryvnias, and on May 21, Sapsai purchased a new Volkswagen Passat worth almost 2 million hryvnias. The quick purchase with the donated funds attracted the attention of subscribers and, according to them, the relevant authorities.
According to sources, employees of the Strategic Investigations Department and the NACP allegedly began checking the sources of money from the customs officer's mother. Moreover, they allegedly even prepared a draft protocol on a corruption offense, but it disappeared in an unknown way.
At the end of the year, Sapsai sold his broken car for 680 thousand hryvnias, which once again drew public attention to the official's financial transactions.
The situation raises questions about the transparency of the origin of funds and compliance with anti-corruption legislation in the actions of a high-ranking customs official.
