Yuriy Boyko, a member of the Ukrenergo Supervisory Board, warns of the possibility of long-term power outages in Ukraine until August. At the press conference, he expressed his assessment of the current situation in the country's energy sector and predicted future prospects.
"If we talk about the restrictions that started a day ago, then we will have to live in these conditions, according to my estimates, until August. In August-September, I expect a slight improvement due to a different set of factors," Boyko said at the press conference.
And the winter will be "inevitably difficult" and it will not be possible to avoid a deficit in the energy system even in warm weather.
On Thursday morning, May 16, emergency blackouts were applied in Ukraine. This was due to the shortage of electricity production and imports for the current level of consumption. This was announced by the general director of the company "Yasno" Serhiy Kovalenko on Facebook.
According to him, the situation at night and in the morning turned out to be more difficult than the energy experts had expected. Kyiv, Dnipro and the region are connected.
"Yesterday evening, Ukrenergo proved the amount of limits that would allow working in the schedules, but later at night and in the morning these limits were adjusted several more times. In the morning, we hopelessly fell out of limits, that's why emergency shutdowns were used," explained Kovalenko.
He added that Ukraine chronically lacks generation and imports for the current level of consumption.
Kovalenko hopes that in the evening it will be possible to manage without outages and Ukraine will be able to pass the next peak calmly, "at least in the schedules".
In turn, "Ukrenergo" reported that hourly shutdown schedules are in effect in all regions. To overcome the shortage of electricity, it is planned to import it from Romania, Slovakia, Poland, Hungary and Moldova.
The company reminded that you can get acquainted with the schedules in the consumer's office, on the official websites of oblenergo, as well as on their pages in social networks.
We will remind, on May 15, electricity blackout schedules began to operate in Ukraine. This was caused by a shortage of power as a result of massive attacks by the Russian Armed Forces on the power system.
