Yuriy Boyko, a member of the supervisory board of Ukrenergo, warns of the possibility of long power outages in Ukraine until August. At a press conference, he expressed his assessment of the current situation in the country's energy sector and predicted further prospects.
"If we talk about the restrictions that began a day ago, then we will have to live in these conditions, according to my estimates, until August. In August-September, I expect a slight improvement due to a different set of factors," Boyko said at a press conference.
And the winter will be “inevitably difficult” and it will not be possible to avoid a deficit in the energy system even in warm weather.
Emergency power outages were imposed in Ukraine on Thursday morning, May 16. This was due to a shortage of electricity production and imports for the current level of consumption. This was reported by Serhiy Kovalenko, CEO of Yasno, on Facebook.
According to him, the situation at night and in the morning turned out to be more complicated than energy experts had expected. Kyiv, Dnipro, and the region are connected.
"Last night, Ukrenergo proved the volume of limits that would allow us to work on schedules, but later at night and in the morning these volumes of restrictions were adjusted several more times. In the morning, we hopelessly fell out of the limits, so emergency shutdowns were applied," Kovalenko explained.
He added that Ukraine chronically lacks generation and imports for the current level of consumption.
Kovalenko hopes that in the evening it will be possible to do without outages and Ukraine will be able to pass another peak calmly, “at least in terms of schedules.”.
In turn, Ukrenergo reported that hourly outage schedules are in effect in all regions. To overcome the electricity shortage, it is planned to import electricity from Romania, Slovakia, Poland, Hungary, and Moldova.
The company reminded that you can view the schedules in the consumer's account, on the official websites of the regional energy companies, as well as on their pages on social networks.
As a reminder, electricity outage schedules began to operate in Ukraine on May 15. This was caused by a power shortage due to massive attacks by the Russian Armed Forces on the power system.
