An investigation into a case that has shocked local residents is underway in the Kharkiv region. An unemployed man from the city of Dergachi with pro-Russian views will be tried for passing information about the locations of the Armed Forces of Ukraine to a Russian journalist. The press service of the Kharkiv Regional Prosecutor's Office reported on the charges, which could lead to serious consequences for the accused.
Since May 2024, the man had been romantically involved with a woman who turned out to be a Russian journalist acting as an agent for Russian intelligence services. Their acquaintance began through a dating chat on the Telegram messenger, which at first glance appeared to be a normal romantic contact.
However, this communication hid a much darker purpose. The journalist, who allegedly reported on the events in the Kharkiv region, actually served as a liaison between the informant and the Russian military. The man, under the influence of a woman's charm, became a supplier of valuable military data.
The man was photographing the locations of the Ukrainian Defense Forces and equipment in the city of Dergachi. This information was passed on to the Russian military, which could have posed a serious threat to the security of Ukrainian troops. Based on the data received, the Russian side could have carried out targeted strikes on strategic objects.
The traitor was exposed in June 2024. He is currently in custody, and the case against him will be considered in the Dergachiv District Court. The man faces up to eight years in prison for collaborating with the enemy.
