President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky signed a decree posting a celebration of Children's Day from June 1 to November 20. The relevant document was published on the official website of the Head of State.
The decree states that the changes occur in order to harmonize the Ukrainian calendar with international practice. It is on November 20 that World Children's Day is celebrated in the world - a date that symbolizes the adoption of the Declaration of the Rights of the Child in 1959 and the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child in 1989.
According to the President, the previous tradition of celebrating on June 1 is more inertia than because of a meaningful attachment to specific events or international standards. At the same time, more and more public organizations, educational institutions and human rights defenders have been called on to navigate on November 20 - a day that is of global importance in the field of children's protection.
The new approach is expected to contribute to the rights of the child in the context of the international legal field and will stimulate the implementation of appropriate changes in the fields of education, social protection and legislation.
