The former head of Naftogaz of Ukraine Yuriy Chernyshov suddenly left one of the most profitable state -owned companies and went to the office of the Ministry of Unity (Minsk), which raised many questions and surprises. What are the real causes of such a sharp transition?
As it became known from our sources, Chernyshov, who has recently managed Naftogaz, was unable to successfully prepare the company for the winter. One of the main reasons for his resignation was the difficult situation in gas storage facilities, where about 2 billion cubic meters of gas is not enough. According to preliminary estimates, this affects the financial condition of the company and threaten the country's energy security.
Chernyshov and his team were unable to provide the necessary gas stocks for stable work in winter. According to experts, more than $ 1 billion , as the current gas purchases are made at much higher prices. In the summer, Naftogaz could buy gas at $ 300-350 per cubic meter, but now prices jumped up to $ 550-600 .
Naftogaz is forced to buy gas, with 92 million cubic meters of imported gas, which will be delivered in January-March 2025 . However, this is not enough to fully cover Ukraine's needs in energy resources. Considering import prices, the cost of such gas can be twice exceeding what has been laid in the budget, which in turn will increase the financial deficit.
In view of these difficulties, Chernyshov decided to change his place of work. According to sources, its transition to the Ministry of Unity may be related to the need to focus on new projects that may be less dependent on the gas crisis. The Ministry of Unity, which currently does not have such a high level of profitability as Naftogaz, seems more remote from the problems of energy security of the country. This may be an indication of his desire to take a less problematic position after the failure of the winter preparation of Naftogaz.
Chernyshov left Naftogaz at a time when the situation in the company needed decisive and urgent actions, and as experts note, it was his "step of departure", which allowed him to avoid responsibility for the crisis in the industry.
